Happy Halloween everyone!  Hope you are all having a safe and fun Halloween this year!

This morning, I woke up to this:

And no, my patio table is not white...  It is *way* too early in the year for this white stuff!  I wouldn't expect snow for another couple weeks...  We still have a lot of outside chores left to do (like putting away the patio furniture!)

I'm making a nod toward Eleanor from the movie Brave with today's outfit.  (Babygirl choose to be Merida for Halloween.)  Eleanor (in her pre-bear state) wears a dark green dress with long trumpet style sleeves and gold trim at the neck.  My sleeves, while slightly drapey, are considerably subdued, but I have the dark green, and the gold necklace represents the gold trim.  We also bought a pair of bear ears for the dog, so he can get in on the family costume.  If Hubby were here maybe I could talk him into wearing a kilt...

Babygirl and I had a wonderful time spending the day yesterday down in Chicago with my brother NSD and my cousin (who lives down there).  We found some great thrift store finds and had a great dim sum lunch in Chinatown.  

Babygirl was entranced with the Chinatown shops.  She wanted one of the caged baby turtles that we adults found incredibly depressing.  Needless to say, our house is still turtle free; we cannot encourage people to treat animals in that manner.  (Cousin and I did briefly toy with the idea of setting the turtles free, but decided that was not the best option either.)  

Today Babygirl had her Halloween celebration at her school.  Turning several three and four year olds loose with a stick is hazardous to the Moms holding the pinata.  I think one of the boys in Babygirl's class thought he was trying out for major league baseball.  The kids all had a great time.  My personal favorite part?  Babygirl helping her classmate's little brother (who isn't in school yet, but their Mom was helping today too) fill his candy bag after she had filled her bag.  I didn't ask or even hint to her.  I love that she voluntarily helps others, it makes me feel like I must be doing something right as a parent.

Today started out cold and rainy, but turned warm and sunny this afternoon.  By the time Babygirl and I finished our errands I was steaming, but thrilled to see the sun!

A big thank you to the sales lady at the Kate Spade outlet for giving Babygirl her *very own* shopping bag!  She almost always wants to carry the bags, but sometimes they are too heavy and she was thrilled with the bag and the fact that it was bright pink!

Babygirl had her follow up visit for her emergency room visit today.  As suspected, the pediatrician says that everything looks as good as can be expected!  Babygirl's bruise has developed into (and continues to develop) a cornucopia of colors on her forehead and two black eyes!  She looks terrible, but says it doesn't hurt unless she presses on it, so that is good news!  She has really been a trooper!

Really feeling like all those chain letters I never forwarded (or even read, for that matter) caught up with me last week!  On top of my car getting dinged and finding out that my sister in law is going in for surgery, Babygirl had her first emergency room visit last week!  She is fine, she probably didn't even really need to go, but she hit her head pretty hard, had an instant bump that was half an inch proud, and we just figured that it was better to take her in than be sorry.  For once in my life dinner was going to be on time that night too.  Oh, well, better to be a paranoid parent than a sorry one...

Let us hope that this week goes a little better.

Had a lovely day at the art museum today with Babygirl.  She had a much better attention span than expected, in fact a little too good!  She spent so much time looking at each painting that we didn't get to see all of the exhibit that we were visiting to see!  Since I was expecting the same rapid pace of our last few visits, this was a welcome change.  We will go back another day to see the rest of the exhibit.

Babygirl had to "mark down" each picture we looked at after we discussed it.

Kind of cold and rainy this morning, so Babygirl and I dressed appropriately, of course it turned into a beautiful fall day after lunch!  I would much rather not have worn rain boots since it didn't actually rain, but it continues to look threatening!

Making some progress on the master bedroom, which is getting a bit of a face lift.  I am getting new nightstands (I actually have one already and am waiting on the second one), new lamps, a new headboard, new duvet covers (pretty much a yearly must in my house anyway with an 80+ lb dog sometimes sharing the bed), and hopefully some new art.  All on a small-ish budget!

I have actually already bought and returned three different sets of lamps that didn't work for me!  As BFF says, I decorate very s-l-o-w-l-y!  The end result of slow decoration is that I am usually *very* happy with the result!  (Besides, I will find *the* lamps eventually!)

Happy Friday!

We are having a really crappy rainy day here, and they are even talking about the possibility of snow for this weekend!  Yuck!  In spite of the weather, I am still having a happy day.  I get to go pick up Babygirl from school soon, and then we are driving down to Chicago to have lunch with my cousin and then pick Hubby up at the airport!  Some days I just have to take charge and find my own happiness in the little things in life!
